The Sparrow’s Song

Audio Narration

I saw the song sparrow singing his song;
his melodious voice was so clear,
at once my own heart started singing along,
and rejoiced as each note kissed my ear.

The song that he sang was as old as the world;
it was learned on the day he was made.
I heard in the song of that sweet little bird,
flawless Eden’s first morning portrayed.

The notes of his song caused my soul to resound,
and a longing began to arise.
And when he was done I had suddenly found
I was weeping fair Eden’s demise.

“For we know that the whole creation has been groaning together in the pains of childbirth until now. And not only the creation, but we ourselves, who have the firstfruits of the Spirit, groan inwardly as we wait eagerly for adoption as sons, the redemption of our bodies. For in this hope we were saved.”

Paul’s Letter to the Romans, chapter 8, verses 22-24a

Postscript

Man’s rebellion against our Creator God not only brought the curse of sin and death upon himself, but also upon the whole of creation, which even now bears within its savage beauty the unmistakable marks of a perfection now lost.

It is to the glory of God that He is bringing about not only the redemption of those who come to Christ in faith, but that the entire natural order will be redeemed at the end of the age when He “makes all things new.”

    1. O, I think the same thing! I love the small creatures, especially the birds. Robins, chickadees, and cardinals are my favorites because they are such cute and charming singers!

I’m praying for those reading this now to draw closer to God through the work of His Spirit in their hearts and as they read His Words to desire to pick up the Bible and to continue seeking and finding Him. 1. Thank you so much, Lisa Beth! The birds hold a special place in my heart, as the Lord has used them to minister to my spirit many times. No longer able to go out into nature, yet these precious little creatures come and perch outside my window and sing to me. Blessings to you!

  4. So thankful that we have the music of songbirds even east of Eden. You have blessed me with your poem, Craig, even as I long with you for Christ’s return.

  5. Well done Craig. I love the throaty songs of the sparrow. I often think of the perfect creation and what is now when I am on wilderness trips, when I hunt and fish and when I take the camera on outings. You captured it in prose.
    Good to see you writing again. Nice pictures.

    1. Thanks Gary! It is really something to contemplate (I often do so at length as well). I’m glad to be writing again also. As always, the pictures were lucky shots. A bit fuzzy due to distance and camera shake, but suitable to my purpose, and really had me admiring this little guy. Blessings to you!
