The Sparrow’s Song

I saw the song sparrow singing his song;
his melodious voice was so clear,
at once my own heart started singing along,
and rejoiced as each note kissed my ear.

The song that he sang was as old as the world;
it was learned on the day he was made.
I heard in the song of that sweet little bird,
flawless Eden’s first morning portrayed.

The notes of his song caused my soul to resound,
and a longing began to arise.
And when he was done I had suddenly found
I was weeping fair Eden’s demise.

Postscript

Man’s rebellion against our Creator God not only brought the curse of sin and death upon himself, but also upon the whole of creation, which even now bears within its savage beauty the unmistakable marks of a perfection now lost.

It is to the glory of God that He is bringing about not only the redemption of those who come to Christ in faith, but that the entire natural order will be redeemed at the end of the age when He “makes all things new.”
