Head Underground

Pigeon in our backyard, looking for grub (photo: Craig Sabin)

Just tell me when it’s over
and it’s safe to look around.
For now I’ll just be sitting here,
my head stuck in the ground.

A bit of dirt stuck up my nose,
a meager price to pay,
To keep me from the stress and strife,
and get me through the day.

I’ve learned that there are many things
it’s better not to know.
When once you’ve got ’em in your head
you just can’t make ’em go.

The best approach to keeping calm
and living free from fears,
Is stick your head beneath the ground
’til dirt stops up your ears.

    1. Ha! The pigeon was reaching deep into the grass in search of seeds and I just got the pic coincidentally (they are quite quick with their movements) as I was trying for a more normal photo. Then, amused by the resulting photo, I realized its novelty and decided to write about it. I’m glad you liked the post, Virginia. God bless!
