I know this will fit,
if I just push a bit,
and then once it’s in,
I will say with a grin,
“I’ve only had four,
I’ve got room for one more!”
Don’t think me a glutton,
that’s just not the case.
I just need to carry this
back to my place
to store in my pantry since
Winter is coming apace!
“The eyes of all look to You, and You give them their food in due time. You open Your hand and satisfy the desire of every living thing. The LORD is righteous in all His ways and kind in all His deeds.”
The 145th Psalm, verses 15-17
Chipmunk cheek pouches are purpose-built for transporting large amounts of food for storage in their burrow pantries to keep them well-fed during the long winters, when they awake to enjoy a meal in between periods of torpor. Yet another small wonder of the natural world that reveals our Creator’s wisdom and marvelous creativity.

These cute photos remind me of something that happened a few days ago to my Yorkie, Henry. I gave him a dog biscuit and he snapped it up so fast that it got lodged in his mouth vertically. (He did that because he was afraid someone was going to get it.) How this could happen, I don’t know! We didn’t know how we were going to free it from his mouth. Then, I had an idea. I took some needle-nose pliers and snipped the biscuit. It crumbled! Moral of the story: Don’t let fear control your actions. I loved your poem! Blessings, Craig!

Hi Cindy, thanks for stopping by! Poor little Henry (cute name!) must have been shocked. How relieved when Mom came to the rescue 🙂 Sometimes I eat the same way – years of training with my siblings all vying for the most of the “good” breakfast cereal with the prize inside, LOL. Blessing to you, Cindy!

Craig, love your pics of Chipmunk! A thought occurred that as God made chipmunk pouches, our Creator also designed us with space for grace in our hearts? (Enough to get through each day?) Like Chipmunk we just need to fill our hearts every morning. Grace & Peace! – Virginia : )

So funny and cute, Craig.
My children had a hamster named Hammy who did the same thing with his cheeks . 🌷

That’s so cool. Thank you for sharing. The older I get, the more amazed I am by God’s creativity. How was I ever an agnostic atheist??

I’m so glad you enjoyed, Linda! Yes, my amazement also grows with age. I, too, was an atheist once, in my case because of hurt and hypocrisy coupled with a love of sin. Praise the Lord He chose such as us to reveal the depths of His mercy and the wideness of His grace! God bless!

Hurt, hypocrisy, and a love of sin. Brother, that was me, too. Praise God for His mercy and grace!
