O Starling, My Darling

Juvenile European Starling (photo: Craig Sabin)
O Starling, my darling,
It's you I would choose,
You captured my gaze with
Your beautiful hues.
O Starling, my darling,
You've stolen my heart,
With colors so lovely,
A sheer work of art.

Well, maybe a bit over-the-top, but this is the first time I’ve seen one of these incredible birds up-close and personal and I got carried away. He showed up with a bunch of grackles. A bit of compensation for their annoying presence (I just can’t make myself like grackles).

  1. I’ve never seen a Starling – what an incredibly beautiful bird! (& what an amazing photograph!) It looks like a painting (God’s heavenly paintbrushes busy at work.) Thank you for sharing, Brother Craig. 🕊🤗🕊

    1. I’m so glad to be able to share! They are intriguing birds. Without the right light and at a distance you might mistake them for an ordinary black bird, except for their bright yellow beak. In fact, they hang around with grackles and blend in quite well, but close up and in good light they are amazing!
