Watched Over

One sparrow seems to watch over the others (photo: Craig Sabin)
Fear subsides where trust abides
and someone has us in their care
A soul distressed can be at rest
     knowing someone else is there

Whose love is sure and motives pure
and knows exactly what to do
And has the might to do what's right
and smite the thing which threatens you

There's only one, God's only Son
who's proved his love and shown his worth
He took my sin and rose again
and then ascended from the earth

Now He alone is on the throne
     preparing for His precious bride
And while we wait no foe nor fate
could ever keep us from His side

Security is found in He
Who holds the cosmos in His hands
He'll prevail and will not fail
To bring us home to fairer lands

“Do not fear those who kill the body but are unable to kill the soul; but rather fear Him who is able to destroy both soul and body in hell. Are not two sparrows sold for a cent? And yet not one of them will fall to the ground apart from your Father. But the very hairs of your head are all numbered. So do not fear; you are more valuable than many sparrows.”

The words of Jesus to his disciples, as recorded in Matthew, chapter 10, verses 28-31

It seemed a fitting symmetry that a photo of “sparrow security” should illustrate a teaching involving sparrows and security.

Those who fear God (revere and respect his holiness and majesty) and belong to Christ are watched over and have nothing to fear from anyone or anything that kills the body, including viruses, although it is quite natural to have an aversion to suffering, for which we must take courage and trust our Lord to supply the needed grace. His purposes are good. He is faithful.

  1. So true how comforting it is when you realize you aren’t alone and someone has your back. God has put a lot of helpers in my life and sometimes I just need to remember God has this.

  4. Thank you so much for this, Craig. “Fear subsides where trusts abides” is a challenging mantra (and prayer) for these times. Also love your sparrow picture – wow! Blessings! Virginia

    1. Thank you Virginia! Yes, there is definitely a spiritual battle accompanying all that is going on, and we do well to keep our minds focused on the Lord! God bless!

  5. It’s ironic Craig that when we focus on the reality of living eternally with the Lord, we can really live here and now no matter what storm we are weathering at the time. It’s a matter of which storm will bring us home. The true test is finding peace in the storm rather than taming the storm (above or pay grade I’m thinking)

    1. Amen, with good reason the Scriptures say to keep our eyes on things above, where Christ is seated and where our life is hidden with him! I often wonder in what form my “ticket home” will come. God bless!
